We aim to offer peer-to-peer education workshops for high school boys. Through starting small group conversations about relationships, mental health and culture amongst a group of mates, we hope to improve young boys' attitude towards masculinity.

Focusing on talking to boys about the value of relationships, how to develop positive ones, and how to foster/nurture these relationships into the future.

What we cover ↘
  • An introduction & icebreaker (creating a comfortable area for discussion).
  • Realising the importance & wellbeing effects of relationships
  • Understanding the different types of relationships how they vary in value
  • Discussing what elements make up healthy relationships & nurturing that.
  • Identifying when relationships become problematic or even abusive.
  • How you can support others and yourselves in these circumstances.

Focusing on talking to boys about the importance of positive mental health, how to recognise negative coping mechanisms and how to support yourself, and others through periods of being mentally unhealthy.

  • Defining what mental health is & starting to cover how it deteriorates.
  • Understanding how vulnerability & emotional regulation is usually ignored by young men.
  • Identifying some positive coping strategies to deal with tough situations.
  • Dealing with relapses and/or relapsing into negative mindsets.

Focusing on talking to boys about building good language and attitudes around their mates, addressing the stereotypes of masculinity in the past and how this has developed over time, and the transitions/stages that men go through in life.

  • Challenging & questioning the ideals that are normalised in ‘lads’ culture
  • Knowing how to be supportive as a group of mates & see the positives.
  • Comparing traditional masculinity to modern masculinity for all people.
  • Discussing ‘rites of passage’, like what transitions men may face in life.
  • The value of positive role models & mentors in supporting us through.
